NEW ORLEANS

Saturday

8:30 AM depart

10:45 AM arrive New Orleans
A private bus will meet us at the airport. Lunch at local favorite restaurant.

1:00 PM Touro Infirmary, We will have a private reception at Touro
Infirmary. Following a presentation of the heroic efforts of individuals and
the hospital during and after Katrina, we will tour the hospital.

2:15 - 4:00 PM Katrina Tour of Devastation Gail Chalew, a volunteer from
New Orleans, will provide an orientation and guided tour of the city. Gail is
a writer and editor who is rebuilding a life in New Orleans after being
evacuated to Baltimore.

4:00 - 5:15 PM Tulane University Discussion of the Tulane-Katrina
experience and campus visit. Speaker: Charles Allen III, Department of
Education, Tulane University

6:00 - 8:00 PM Dinner at Jacques-Imo’s Restaurant with guest speaker
Rev. Dwight Webster discussing Churches Helping Churches.

Sunday

7:30 AM Wake - up

7:45 - 8:15 AM Breakfast at hotel

8:30 AM depart to work site

9:00 AM Orientation and Spiritual Reflections at the Lakewood Beacon
of Hope. The Beacon of Hope Resource Center was founded in 2006 in a
once flooded home to serve as a refuge for weary neighbors and a lifeline
for all homeowners who seek information and resources to rebuild their
devastated homes in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

9:00 AM - 3:00 PM Work at site, lunch on site

4:30 - 6:00 PM Debriefing and discussion
with guest speaker Jennifer Moses. Jennifer Moses is a writer and painter
who lives in Baton Rouge.She is the author of the book, Bagels and Grits.

6:15 PM Depart for New Orleans Arena and the Houston vs Jazz
Basketball game. Dinner at game.

Monday

7:30 AM Wake up

7:45 AM Breakfast: Guest speaker: Mark Schleifstein, Pulitzer Prize staff
writer. Guest Speaker: The Times-Picayune

8:30 AM depart for work site, lunch on site

9:00 AM - 3:30 PM Work at Lakewood Beacon of Hope

4:30 - 6:00 PM Debriefing and discussion.
Guest Speaker: Paul Vallas, Superintendent. Recovery School District LA
and Gail Glickman, Special Ed teacher New Orleans Free Academy

7:15 PM Dinner Reservations: Mulate’s, 201 Julia Street. This legendary
restaurant is recognized throughout the world as the King of Cajun Dine
and Dance hall, featuring live Cajun music and dancing along with great
authentic Cajun food seven days a week.

Tuesday

7:00 AM wake up

7:30 - 8:30 AM Breakfast

Volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans

1:30 - 3:00 PM lunch Piccadilly Cafeteria, Metairie Guest Speaker: Jessie
Smallwood, the Deputy Director of the Office of Recovery Management.

3:30 PM Depart for airport

5:00 PM Depart New Orleans
